And yes, I did the capoeira class

My first capoeira class tonight. Good fun!!! My, how far I've come from the introverted, skinny, un-athletic boy I was. Tonight I discovered that I can do cartwheels! (something that eluded me in years past)

At least I've made progress in the athletic end of things ;)

And I got my first capoeira blister... perhaps this'll be the year I toughen up my feet as I've wanted to do before.

My Manifesto of the Moment

For the past year or so I've been entertained and intrigued by many of the horoscopes by Rob Brezsny, published in our local paper (www.freewillastrology.com)

This is my most recent one, and it's a perfect fit with my life right now.

Here's what George Sheehan wrote in Running and Being, his book about running: "If you want to win anything--a race, your self, your life--you have to go a little berserk." For a limited time only, I'm endorsing that strategy for your personal use, Cancerian. While I do love your sensitivity and subtlety, right now I'd like to see you get half-crazy in a ferocious devotion to the noble dream you love best.

I'm taking this on as my manifesto of the moment:

Getting half-crazy-berserk in ferocious devotion to the noble dream I love best - extraordinary fitness.

Oi! Me muscles quiver!

Just returned from my third crossfit group class at the local rec centre/gym (Meadow Park). Shaky legs and arms, hurray! And it feels so good. Tonight I was introduced to kettlebell swings, and after some warming up and isolated sets we did three circuits of those + ball slams, hanging crunches, and dumbbell thrusters. There were a couple of guys there for their first crossfit class as well, Dave and Gerhart (sp?) who happen to be sponsored riders and local filmers. I'm going to pick up a copy of their DVD at a local shop soon. Hopefully see them around more, this is exactly the kind of people I want to connect with.

In other warrior news, I've worked out at home the past three days as well, making this my fourth day in a row. I'm looking at doing my first capoeira classes tomorrow and Thursday, which would give me a solid six-day workout week (my first in a year and a half!). Workouts have included walking, jogging, speed-hiking up a slushy hill, various milk-jug thrusting movements, L-crunches (propped up on stools), dips, and kickboxing. Also did some really fun bo-staff play with a friend of mine up here (he's also my kickboxing teacher), including a fun exercise I've never done before, tossing the staff to each other. My staves are rattan, which is extremely flexible, so they get quite a quiver in them as they fly through the air, making it perhaps a bit more difficult to execute the grab. Especially if you lob them with some spin. Really, really fun.

When I get a new camera, I'll start to record some of my workouts and moves to post here.

Warrior what?

A note on the title of this blog: warriorsnow can be interpreted in two ways, both part of my inspiration.

Warrior Snow: reflects my intense love of snowboarding, which is my "way", my path. I'll write something about that sometime.

Warriors Now: Influenced by many concepts and experiences, including "Way Of The Peaceful Warrior" (now an inspiring movie, http://www.thepeacefulwarriormovie.com/ ), my experiences over the years in various martial arts, ideals and possibilities and victories of the human spirit. Also expresses my belief that we all have a warrior aspect which can be experienced Now.

Training as a Spartan warrior

Read about the training the actors underwent to achieve the fitness they demonstrated in "300",
firsthand from the film's head trainer. Link follows to Gym Jones, the website of the gym of Mark Twight.

This is the kind of training I'm stoked to get into, which I've (just barely) begun. I see great potential. I'd be happy to hear comments from anyone else considering this path or on it already.

Welcome to my blog!

What I'd like to do with this blog is to make a record of my progression as I move forward, in order to distill the keys to my success, for my benefit and, I hope, yours.
If this idea does develop, I'll likely split topics as outlined below (my ... journeys), and invite full community participation and collaboration. Maybe we can create a whole range of maps to success in different areas of life. That would be cool, eh?

Let's see how it goes. Glad to have you along for the ride.

===.

There are a few main areas in which I'm moving forward these days.

My fitness journey: acquiring the physique of a Spartan warrior! Aaaarroumph!
My business journey: creating my first website, warriorsnowboarding.com, and other projects to come.
My dating journey: re-evaluating my social and romantic life; who I am, how I interact, my whole philosophy and approach to dating.
My snowboarding journey: a big part of warriorsnowboarding.com of course, and my general riding and career progression
My life journey: all of the above and more.

Currently my top long-term priority is achieving a stable, independent income. The plan is to achieve this through my own websites (infopreneurship), but I'm open to other possibilities.

My top short-term goals are to continue my freestyle snowboarding progression 'til Blackcomb closes June 3rd, to develop an instructional website on snowboarding progression, to ahieve an exceptional general level of fitness, and to balance my personal development, business/career/work, and my social life.
